A Malicious Face's corpse being bounced on a bounce pad while held by the Whiplash's hook

Bounce Pads are movement objects found throughout the levels of Hell. Their main function is to launch enemies, and yourself, with relative ease. They first appear in [ 2-1: BRIDGEBURNER ].

Description[]

Bounce Pads take the appearance of flat rectangular pieces of metal, with a square blue light in the middle. Rings of light, as well as small white particles, are also constantly emitted from the pad.

In 7-4: ...LIKE ANTENNAS TO HEAVEN, bounce pads take the form of steam grates instead.

Mechanics[]

Upon stepping on a Bounce Pad, V1 will be launched in the direction that the Bounce Pad is facing, at a momentum that is about 4x higher than V1's regular jump. Doing a Ground Slam into the pad will give you additional height.

It should be noted that some Bounce Pads, such as the one at the beginning of [ 2-1: BRIDGEBURNER ] or [ 4-4: CLAIR DE SOLEIL ], will bounce V1 much higher than usual. Those are usually created for transportation and take no part in combat sequences.

Light enemies, as well as the corpses or giblets for all enemies, will also be launched upwards upon stepping or landing on the pad. Malicious Faces are a notable example, as their corpses will continue to bounce on the pad infinitely. Their corpses will also retain their collision, allowing V1 to, for example, pull itself to them using the Whiplash. Heavy enemies such as the Cerberus or Swordsmachine will not bounce on the bounce pad while alive.

Bounce pads will also bounce every non-hitscan projectile in the game, including Coins, shotgun pellets, nails, drills, rockets, jumpstart cable, chainsaw, oil, enemy fireballs, Cerberus energy balls, Hideous Mass mortars, Mindflayer homing projectiles, and even Gabriel's thrown weapons.

Strategy[]

You can lure enemies to Bounce Pads to immobilize them. Most enemies don't have enough air control to move out of the pad's way. You can also use Bounce Pads in conjunction with the Whiplash to splatter enemies into the ground or perform airshots.

Trivia[]

  • The Malicious Face's corpse will always bounce directly upwards on a bounce pad, even if the bounce pad is at an angle. Other enemy gibs will bounce at an angle as expected.
  • Soap can also be bounced off a bounce pad, although there are no levels that feature both.
  • A simplified bounce pad found in the Lust layer.

Bounce pads have low quality versions. They are much flatter in color and have no particles.
