ULTRAKILL Wiki

Machines are man-made, mechanical entities that use blood as fuel. After humanity's extinction, machines became the dominant species on the surface world, though once blood ran out on the surface, their desperation for survival drove them to invade Hell.

Description[]

Machines were created by humans, who created them for various purposes. Drones were mass produced for surveillance and security. Streetcleaners were made to purify the tainted air of cities after a climate catastrophe known as the Long Night. Swordsmachine's original purpose is unknown and its original form is unrecognizable, having largely rebuilt itself from scavenged scrap. Guttermen were made for war to clear out trenches, and Guttertanks were also made for war, but more specifically to counter machines and the Guttermen. Earthmovers were made to be the very embodiment of war and ravage everything across its path. V1 was prototyped as a self-repairing war machine to exploit every machine's fuel source to repair itself (and probably to destroy Earthmovers), while V2 was prototyped to recoup the costs of developing a self-repairing war machine after the abolishment of war, but was also discontinued due to lack of demand.

Many machines were made obsolete after the New Peace, which ended all war and likely united humanity. Streetcleaners and Sentries were repurposed as scouts for Hell expeditions. The production of models V1 and V2 were canceled, leaving only prototypes of one of each in existence.

Eventually, humanity fell, and mankind became extinct. Based on Minos Prime's dialogue, machines committed crimes against humanity, implying that machines either had a role in their destruction or was merely referring to their war crimes in the Final War. After civilization collapsed, machines became the dominant species. With their only goal being to survive and obtain more blood, machines evolved and specialized to kill. Scavenging and self-repairing, machines eventually descended into Hell in search of more blood, with some adapting and even mastering the use of Hell energy in order to kill more efficiently. Although machines rarely have the luxury of co-operation due to sharing blood with others being seen as a waste, some of them, most notably a Casketless Gutterman and a Guttertank explicitly team up in order to ambush V1 in [ 7-2: LIGHT UP THE NIGHT ].

Trivia[]

  • The Machines are currently the most numerous creature type in ULTRAKILL, at 13 unique entities each (12 if taken under consideration that Mirage, sadly, is not real).[1]
  • According to Hakita, every Machine has organic components installed within their mechanical bodies, hence why they gib just like the other enemies and bosses.[2]
  • It is confirmed by Hakita that despite having emotions and a conscious, they don't have souls since they were made artificially.[3]
