Hazards are traps and dangers that appear in a variety of levels in ULTRAKILL. They can be both helpful and harmful, damaging or killing both the player and enemies when they make contact with one, as well as potentially giving the player style bonuses.

Types[]

  • Grinders do exactly what they say on the tin, and are often found in pits within levels. When an enemy falls into one, they are killed and the player receives the +MINCED style bonus. The player dies instantly when falling into one. Grinders appear in the following levels:
  • Fans, not to be confused with people who really like ULTRAKILL, are big spinning blades at the bottom of pits. When an enemy touches one, they are killed and the player receives the +SHREDDED style bonus. The player dies instantly when touching one. Fans appear in the following levels:
  • Crushers do exactly what they say on the installation guide. When an enemy is caught by one, they are killed and the player receives the +CRUSHED style bonus. The player dies instantly when caught by one. Crushers appear in the following levels:
  • Spinning Walls are, unsurprisingly, walls that spin. They are hexagonal and extremely hot. When an enemy touches one, they catch on fire and die. The player receives the +FRIED style bonus when the enemy dies, and if the enemy's corpse is caught between the moving wall and the floor, it may end up getting squished, granting the player the +CRUSHED style bonus. The player takes 10 damage when they touch a spinning wall. Spinning walls only appear in one level so far:
  • Lava is molten rock, often found in pools or flowing throughout levels. When an enemy touches it, they are killed and the player receives the +FRIED style bonus. Unlike other liquids, it is inconsistent whether the pool of lava allows the player to skip along the top of the lava by sliding onto it. The ones that do not allow skipping will instead sink the player into the lava and do damage as normal. The player takes 50 damage when they touch the lava. Lava appears in the following levels:
  • Bottomless Pits are mysterious regions of space that teleport and injure you for no reason when all you're trying to do is skip the spinal staircase in P-1. They are also present at the bottom of levels that have no floor. When an enemy falls into one, they are killed and the player receives the +FALL style bonus in earlier levels and some other ones in later levels. When the player falls into one, they may either die instantly (for example, the pit after the first door in 2-1: BRIDGEBURNER) or take 50 damage and respawn on nearby solid ground (for example, jumping off the side of the bridge later on in 2-1). It is impossible to die from pits that deal 50 damage and respawn the player; falling into one with 50 or less health causes the player's health to be set to exactly 1 when they respawn but does not kill them. Bottomless pits appear in the following levels:
  • Acid is a hazardous liquid found inside the Gluttony layer, likely consisting of stomach acid. After touching it, enemies take damage over time, eventually dying and dissolving, granting no style bonus to the player. Enemies will continue to take damage over time from it even after leaving it, and they do not take any extra damage over time while in contact with it. The player can heal from damage dealt by acid, unlike the other source of damage over time available in the game, fire. Like water, the player can skip along the surface of acid by sliding while coming into contact with it. The player takes 10 damage when they are submerged in acid, but does not take damage when skipping along the surface. Acid appears in the following levels:
  • Gold Dust is metal dust that resembles sand in the Greed layer, which has been heated to extreme temperatures by the intense sun. Enemies take damage over time while touching it, and when they die, the player receives the +FRIED style bonus. The player takes 10 damage when they touch gold dust. Gold dust appears in the following levels:
  • The Ocean Styx is a vast ocean in the Wrath layer made up on millions of unfortunate souls attempting to claw their way to the surface. When an enemy touches it, they are killed and the player receives the +CRUSHED style bonus, thanks to the immense weight of the doomed souls. You're able to skip along the surface, due to it having a similar consistency to Water, allowing you to reach areas you normally can't. The Ocean Styx appears in the following levels:
  • The Red Mass is a strange substance found in the Heresy layer, information is very scarce. The Red Mass appears in the following levels:
  • The Phlegethon is a river made entirely out of boiling blood, where sinners who committed violence against others burn in for all eternity. Enemies who fall into it instantly die and the player is granted the +BOILED style bonus. It can only be found in the level:
  • The Minefield is an area which causes the player to take damage when stepped on, also causing an explosion and sending the player up high.
  • Maurice is normally an enemy, but makes a cameo as a hazard in 4-S: CLASH OF THE BRANDICOOT where he attempts to crush you by rolling over you. Coming into contact with his rolling face will kill you, as well as any enemies that make contact. Although the normal style system is typically disabled for level 4-S, if you deactivate Clash mode using cheats, enemies crushed by Maurice grant the player the +MAURICED style bonus. Once he stops rolling, he is perfectly safe to touch.
