After the Earthmover scandal, I've stored the source of every page with >1000 revisions as of October 23, 2024 so that something like this will not happen again. If it looks broken, it's because I put nowiki parameters around them so as to not interfere with categories.

Though he proclaims his gratitude to V1 for freeing him, he condemns V1 to death for the machines' crimes against humanity. He is considered the most complex and difficult boss of Act I. He spawns after defeating Flesh Prison, as he was trapped within it by the angels after being killed by Gabriel before the beginning of the game. ==Appearance== Minos Prime is a pale bluish-white translucent humanoid figure with a visible circulatory system and heart. He has two snakes wrapped around his arms, a hole in his face, and a cubical crown fused to his head. He also emits a perpetual bright blue glow. == Combat and behavior == Minos Prime is an incredibly powerful enemy, capable of chaining attacks to destroy V1 in seconds. It only takes a moment of inattention to be utterly destroy<nowiki/>ed. Note that being airborne is very risky as Minos Prime can, and will kill you before you can get back in position. Prime Souls have a stamina system, which dictates how many attacks they are able to use. Minos Prime has 6 stamina in his first phase and 12 in his second, and recovers 5 when parried. If Minos Prime runs out of stamina he will be unable to attack for 2 seconds. When damaged to below 65 health, he will enter his second phase, signified by him gaining blue flames and stating “WEAK.” *"Judgement!": Minos Prime will yell “Judgement!”, enter a crouching position, then dashes at the speed of light in front of V1 and perform a dropkick, creating a large explosion that deals 50 damage. This attack can be parried; during his first phase, a successful parry will also cancel the explosion. If V1 dodges towards Minos Prime to avoid this attack, he will immediately follow up with either a "Die"/"Crush!", a serpent, or an Overhead. This attack uses 2 stamina. *"Die!": Minos Prime aims at V1 before instantly slamming towards them, creating a ground shockwave on impact. Minos Prime briefly stops tracking V1 before the slam comes out, allowing the slam to be avoided. This attack can hit the wall or ceiling, causing the shockwave to be created there and canceling Minos Prime's recovery animation. This attack is only used when Minos Prime is airborne and requires 1 Stamina. *"Crush!": A variant of "Die!" used if V1 is too close when initiated. It goes straight down, creating a large explosion that deals 50 damage rather than 30. This attack requires 1 Stamina. *Serpent: Minos Prime winds up his right arm with an orange glow before releasing a serpentine projectile that homes in on V1. The longer it exists, the tighter its homing gets. It will persist until colliding with a surface or V1. It can be parried, making it a good source of health and a good way to deal damage. *"Prepare thyself!": A two-kick combo followed by a Parriable Serpent. The kicks have a chance of launching V1 into the air should they hit, and if V1 is airborne at any point during the kicks, Minos Prime will instead interrupt the combo to do an Uppercut instead, removing the parry opportunity at the end of the combo. This can easily be avoided by sliding/strafing left or right, and moving backwards when Minos Prime is about to cast his serpent, sliding/dashing out of the way or Parrying it. This attack requires 3 Stamina. *"Thy end is now!": Minos Prime will yell “Thy end is now!” before attempting to hit V1 with a 4-punch combo, each hit dealing 30 damage. The last hit can be parried. Afterward, Minos Prime will be stuck in the ground shortly until he dislodges himself, giving a short window to heal. If V1 goes airborne after a swing, Minos Prime will immediately cancel into an Uppercut. <br />This attack uses 2 stamina. *Uppercut: Minos Prime teleports to V1 and attempts a single hit; if it connects, V1 gets launched high into the air along with Minos Prime. A Ground Slam can be used to cancel V1's upward momentum. This attack requires 1 Stamina to be performed. *Overhead: Minos Prime teleports directly above V1 and does a straight-down attack after a sound cue accompanied with a blue flash. This move only is used while Minos Prime is aerial. This attack consumes 1 Stamina to be performed. ===Stamina=== All of Minos Prime's attacks are controlled by an invisible stamina meter, that can be made visible via the use of mods. The stamina meter dictates what moves can be performed at what time. If he runs out of stamina, he will have to wait for it to recharge: The recovery window is 4 seconds on Harmless, 3 on Lenient, and 2 on Standard and Violent. Once he's tired out, blast 'em. Phase 1 on Harmless, Lenient, and Standard all have 6 points of stamina, whilst standard has 12 points of stamina in phase 2. Violent is the least forgiving, with 10 points of stamina in phase one, and infinite stamina in phase two. The Stamina values of each difficulty are the following: *<span style="color: rgb(0,255,0)">HARMLESS</span> / <span style="color: rgb(255,255,0)">LENIENT</span> - 6 Stamina on both phases. *<span style="color: rgb(255,100,0)">STANDARD</span> - 6 Stamina in Phase 1, 12 Stamina in Phase 2 *<span style="color: rgb(255,0,0)">VIOLENT</span> - 10 Stamina in Phase 1, Infinite Stamina in Phase 2 *<span style="color: rgb(155,0,0)">BRUTAL</span> - 15 Stamina in Phase 1, Infinite Stamina in Phase 2 Parrying any of Minos Prime's melee attacks will restore 5 points of stamina to him. Phase 2 When falling below 65 (50%) health, Minos Prime shouts "WEAK.", overriding any other voice lines. He also gains a blue fiery aura. During Phase 2, Minos Prime can use Serpent projectiles after jumping before following up with "Die!/Crush!" or an Overhead. On Standard difficulty, Parrying "Judgement!" will no longer prevent the explosion, forcing the player to dash to avoid damage during a parry. On Violent, "Judgement!" and the final hit of "Thy end is now!" cannot be parried. ===Difficulty Changes=== *<span style="color: rgb(0,255,0)">HARMLESS</span> / <span style="color: rgb(255,255,0)">LENIENT</span> **Minos Prime's "Die!/Crush!" and "Judgement!" attacks have smaller shockwaves and explosions (or none at all on Harmless). **Minos Prime does not gain any more stamina going into Phase 2. **Minos Prime's attacks are considerably slower, especially on Harmless difficulty. His projectile attacks however, are still as fast as they would be on higher difficulties. *<span style="color: rgb(255,0,0)">VIOLENT</span> **Minos Prime's "Die!/Crush!" and "Judgement!" attacks have massive shockwaves and explosions. **Parrying "Judgement!" will not interrupt the attack or prevent the player from taking damage from its explosion in Phase 1. **"Judgement!" and "Thy end is now!" attacks cannot be parried when Minos Prime is reduced to half health. ** Minos Prime has 60% more stamina in Phase 1 and gains unlimited stamina in Phase 2. *<span style="color: rgb(155,0,0)">BRUTAL</span> **Minos Prime's attack pattern becomes highly varied and fires serpents much more often. These being easily noticed during Phase 2. ** Minos Prime's attacks are slightly faster. ==Rending Apart== Minos Prime, being a Prime Soul, is one of the most difficult enemies in the game, and thus one should not expect the first try to be the only try. Especially coming after the Flesh Prison fight, this opponent can be one of the most nerve-racking and stressful fights in the game. Be sure you're comfortable, steady your nerves, and perhaps get some water (who am i kidding, you're gonna get some fucking gfuel). It'll be a long fight, and likely not one done in a single life. P-ranking this will be especially difficult and will take a lot of practice, trial, and error. Minos Prime telegraphs his attacks quite clearly. Generally, circle-strafing and utilizing dash's Invincibility Frames can be used to successfully avoid attacks. "Die!" and "Crush!" attacks can be avoided consistently by dashing to the side and jumping when the telegraph is heard, avoiding getting hit directly and going above the ground shockwave. In order to avoid the shockwave, dash forward inside the shockwave and/or slam. It is also possible to bait Minos Prime into using these attacks onto a wall, which causes the shockwave to be vertical, making it easy to avoid. A good general tip for the majority of the fight would be to stay grounded, as he will have a preference to use Serpents and trickier attacks while V1 is airborne. He will also cancel "Thy end is now!", "Prepare Thyself!" and "Judgement!" with an Uppercut if V1 is airborne during them, and both are easy to avoid by just circle strafing. The exception to staying grounded is to avoid the shockwave of "Die!"/"Crush!". Using the Whiplash or slam is useful to immediately get back on the ground, just stay wary of an oncoming shockwave or other attack. However, if one is used to parrying the serpents, one can utilize this trait to potentially regain health. Minos Prime's "Thy end is now!" is one of the easiest attacks to avoid. By constantly switching directions during attacks while using sliding or dashing, it is guaranteed that Minos Prime will miss all of his attacks. This is also an opportunity to deal as much damage as possible during this attack, especially the final hit of the attack, which leaves himself vulnerable for a long time. The final hit of the attack can be parried, except for Phase 2 on Violent and above. This can be consistently done by tracking the amount of times he has attacked, and positioning oneself to parry the final attack and dashing away, as the attack will still connect even when parried. Instead of dashing away it is also possible to simply stand to the side instead of in front of him, which allows to easily parry his attack and deal a considerable amount of damage with shotguns. Minos Prime is able to launch a yellow-colored homing Serpent that explodes on contact, usually when V1 is too far away from Minos Prime. Due to its persistent nature, it can be difficult to avoid, but the Serpent is parriable and can be destroy<nowiki/>ed with the Sharpshooter Revolver, though the timing is tight. There are many ways to mitigate this, such as moving in a straight line, dashing while parrying, or sliding back before parrying, all of which will make parrying more consistent and the snake more predictable. If parrying is not an option, one can bait it towards the wall to make it break. In more niche scenarios, an explosion can do the trick, which includes Minos Prime's "Judgement!". On Violent and above, the Serpent is the only attack that can be parried on Phase 2, so learning to parry this attack is vital to defeating him on higher difficulties. Minos Prime's "Prepare Thyself!" can be similarly dodged as "Thy end is now!", except for the 3rd hit of the combo, where he will launch a homing Serpent and end the attack. The Serpent itself can be parried, and most strategies mentioned for dealing with the Serpent work here. However, the Serpent<nowiki/>'s explosion can still damage V1, especially when Minos Prime is too close, so dashing after parrying will avoid the damage and the knockback itself. "Judgement!", while it can take new players by surprise, is one of the easiest attacks to avoid or parry. While the parry timing is a bit awkward, which is only after moments of him about to land the dropkick, it is easy to learn and master the timing. Parrying the attack also cancels the shockwave on Standard and below. However, on Violent and Brutal, the shockwave will still persist and the attack becomes unparriable on phase 2. In these cases or where parrying isn't an option, dashing just moments after the teleport is the most consistent way to dodge it. During the fight and Phase 1 on Violent and above, his "Thy end is now!" and "Judgement!" parry are some of the easiest ones of the fight, so those who like their odds can get a free full heal off of it. Note that this also restores his stamina, so in some scenarios, it might be better to not parry these attacks instead. During Minos Prime's cutscene, one can prepare traps or set up tech such as Slabcoining, Railcoining, or Railcoin-punching. This is especially made easier after defeating him once, which allows the cutscene to be skipped. By setting up a Sawblade trap, and performing any high-damage coin techs, Minos Prime's health will rapidly deplete at the start of the fight, and in some cases instantly killing him (in the case of Deadcoining), or depleting his health to Phase 2. (you have 40 seconds to prepare.) The alternate Piercer Revolver is very good for reliable damage at every range, even with a slow fire rate. Minos Prime moves quickly, so good aim is very important. Coins are also very useful here, as their auto-aiming nature will greatly help deal damage to Minos Prime, as he is a relatively small and very mobile opponent. Both variations of the Sharpshooter will work wonders as well, with its alt fire being able to destroy the Serpent projectile if needed be. Due to the room being mostly octagonal, the Sharpshooter has the potential to deal a lot of damage in a single alt fire, with the right timing and setup. The Shotgun, especially the Pump Charge Shotgun, can be great for doing damage when Minos Prime is doing his more predictable attacks - a double-charged shot is capable of dealing massive damage when at point-blank. Projectile Boosting can also be fairly easy to do damage with. Shotgun Swapping when Minos Prime is not doing an attack is also a great way to deal consistent damage, while also acting as a great source of healing. The Nailgun can inflict heavy damage on Minos Prime at the start of the fight by laying a trap with all 3 magnets during the cutscene, though it can be awkward to damage Minos Prime with the Nailgun compared to the Shotgun without the use of magnets. Similar or better traps can be achieved with the Sawblade Launcher, which can also lay traps during the fight itself to inflict damage without necessarily needing to aim at Minos Prime. Since Minos Prime itself moves quickly, and the entire fight demands mobility, baiting him into saw traps can be difficult, but with the proper setup, it will deal massive damage, as such, this is best done at the start of the fight to deal massive burst damage. Shooting him with the Screwdriver Railcannon can be helpful, as it will mean easy health and constant damage if staying close. A good opportunity to put to embed a Screwdriver would be at the end of his "Thy end is now!", as he holds still for a short period. Be wary of Hard Damage however, as it can rack up fast if too reliant on healing or not stylish enough. Alternatively, this brief moment of respite can allow the player to perform a powerful Railcoining technique if they are fast enough, by tossing a coin backward and another through Minos Prime and then shooting the latter coin with the Electric Railcannon, forgoing constant healing and in favor of high burst damage. Using the Electric Railcannon without the use of coins is not recommended, as it deals less damage than a Screwdriver while only providing a quick burst of healing, which is much less useful than a constant source of healing. This is especially true for Phase 2 on VIOLENT and above, where only his Serpent attack can be parried. The Rocket Launcher can often score airshots on Minos Prime for double damage during movements and attacks that render him airborne, such as Uppercuts, Overheads, and the latter half of "Judgement!". Magnets can help in landing airshots as well. Due to Minos Prime's speed and small stature, this can be difficult without good aim or magnets. Even when grounded, it can still deal a high damage output; not to mention the fast swapping speed, which can be used to dish out a quick burst of damage. If you find yourself being comboed to death, it's possible to use the Sawed-on Shotgun or its' alternate variation to try and heal off of Minos Prime while you're being demolished. This will also deal a good amount of damage to him, as the chainsaw itself will be constantly dealing damage. This is not a sustainable method to kill Minos Prime though, as his serpents, shockwaves and whatever else he chooses to bring will destroy you before you even have a second thought. It is better to try and parry his combos and disengage whilst performing this. ==Terminal Data== For more information, see Terminal. <blockquote>TYPE: PRIME SOUL DATA:<br /> A Prime soul is an incredibly rare occurrence in which a soul amasses so much power that it no longer requires a Husk as a vessel to manifest physically. As manifestations of pure will, souls are incredibly powerful, to the point that even the prideful angels see them as a threat and will use any means necessary to stop them from forming. King Minos felt that eternal suffering was an unfair and unreasonable punishment for those whose only sin was loving another. After the Disappearance of God, as angels were lost and Heaven was in chaos, Minos began his efforts to reform the Lust layer. The Lust renaissance was prosperous, as King Minos guided its inhabitants to come together and build a new civilization. The combined efforts of the countless who had been damned to the second layer bore great results as the grand city of Lust grew and grew. However, after the Council took control of Heaven and brought stability to it through their iron fist rule, they saw that Minos had gone against God's will by freeing sinners from the punishment that God had designed for them. Gabriel, the brightest of the angels, was sent to kill Minos. The king, rather than fight back, tried to reason with him, but Gabriel mercilessly struck him down without listening. As Minos's will was strong enough to attempt to stand up to Heaven's rule, the angels chose to imprison his soul in an attempt to stop it from forming into a Prime soul and appointed Gabriel as the new Judge of Hell. From the prison inside his own body, Minos helplessly watched as his soulless corpse, now controlled by parasites, tore apart everything he had worked so hard to build, cursing his own weakness for failing to protect his people, vowing to take revenge.. STRATEGY:<br /> - It's rare for Minos Prime to give a window of opportunity to heal, so it's vital to learn what attacks leave him momentarily vulnerable and how to dodge them in a way that gives an advantageous position during those moments. - His snake projectiles can be parried using the Feedbacker for a full heal, even if the projectile doesn't hit Minos Prime.</blockquote> ==Voice Lines== *"Ahh… Free at last. Earthmovers are visible throughout most of the Violence layer, with three Earthmovers visible in the distance in [ 7-2: LIGHT UP THE NIGHT ] and a lone Earthmover looming over the forests of [ 7-3: NO SOUND, NO MEMORY ]. The 1000-THR "Earthmover" is a Supreme Machine of such size that most of the playable level takes place upon and within it, with only start and finish of it being off the machine. It is a massive quadrupedal war machine similar in shape to a centaur. It has a single thin arm attached to its upper body that bears some sort of electric weapon, capable of firing massive beams of electricity across large distances. Ladders, platforms and steam vents wind up its legs, and numerous structures—including functional power stations and living spaces for civilian habitation—are built upon its back and neck. It seems to be engaged in a perpetual duel with another Earthmover in the distance, firing lightning at each other, although neither appear to suffer any damage due the shield generators. Internally, it has a massive hollow chamber lined with flesh and filled with boiling blood to purge intruders with several Idols guarding the path up the neck, which contains numerous hot pipes that burn V1, and winds to the head chamber that contains the brain. The brain of the Earthmover is mostly covered by a metal box with numerous tubes, two visible CPUs, and text reading “1000-THR”. The bottom right of the box has come loose with bits of brain dangling. It also has a long spine-like wire that goes to the top with 6 wires connected to the Earthmover’s eyes. When damaged, it will wiggle about, and when finally killed, the brain explodes, with the Earthmover thrashing in agony. The Earthmover's brain is protected by a holographic cylinder with 4 laser-projecting walls that rotate around the cylindrical room. The floor has 2 cylinders in the ground that lift two Idols on opposite sides of the room to protect the brain. The walls inside the Earthmover's head has computers on the walls, with keyboards included. ==Combat== For the fight against the defence system, see 1000-THR Defence System. The "brain" of the Earthmover is surrounded by four rotating walls of laser beams that encompass the entire arena. Damage from the lasers cannot be avoided by dashing, but each wall of lasers has a space the player can jump or slide through to pass through unharmed. Every few seconds, the brain fires a large homing orb projectile. Occasionally, two Idols will appear in the arena, shielding the brain from damage until they are destroyed. However, you can also use the Idol containers as cover from the laser and to heal yourself. ==Terminal Data== For more information, see Terminal. <blockquote>TYPE: SUPREME MACHINE DATA:<br/>The Earthmovers were the pinnacle of the arms race. Often called the horsemen of the apocalypse, it took only one to level an entire city and leave nothing but fire in its wake. The last era of the Final War had begun. The first machines large enough to house a shield generator, these walking fortresses could only be made vulnerable from within, making them the frontline for smaller, more mobile machines. Due to their colossal size, they required both blood and solar power to function. When the final era escalated, cleansing the world with fire, the surviving civilians were forced to evacuate and build new homes on the backs of these machines, as the surface became an inhospitable wasteland where no flora or fauna could flourish. Eventually the soot, smoke and decay from unending global war would blot out the sun, casting the world into the Long Night, and Earthmovers, unable to feed on sunlight, shut down and died out one by one. War had become entirely dependent on them, large scale conflict was no longer feasible. Finally, mankind started to work together to reverse the effects of the Long Night climate catastrophe, and so began the New Peace. 200 years of war for its own sake ended not with a bang, but utter silence. At the brink of despair, the planet would slowly learn to breathe once more, and the corpses of these titans would serve as a stark reminder of just how close mankind was to an apocalypse by their own hand. STRATEGY:<br/> - Each part of the security system is immobile, making them very vulnerable to attacks that would otherwise easily miss, such as Freeze Frame rockets. - Some of the gaps in the main computer room's defence grid are too high up for a normal jump, but the elevated edges of the room can be used to get higher. More adept movers may instead jump immediately after a ground slam to gain enough height.</blockquote> ==Audio== The Earthmover's <s>scream of terror</s> alert siren when it spots V1 at the start of [ 7-4: ...LIKE ANTENNAS TO HEAVEN ]: ==Trivia== ===References=== *The name "Earthmover" is derived from a community suggestion, and a reference to the song "Earthmover" by Have A Nice Life. The song is about large automatons that destroy the world, similar to how the Earthmover are described to have destroyed the surface of the earth in game. **The Earthmover is internally referred to as the Centaur, though isn't referred to as such in-game to avoid confusion with the similarly-named <s>Minotaur</s>. ***Furthermore, 1000 in Japanese is "Sen", which when paired with "THR" (THOR, because they throw lightning) creates "Sen-THOR", which is phonetically similar to "Centaur". This has been confirmed to be intentional by Hakita. ****This is most likely a reference to Dante's Divine Comedy where in Hell's circle of violence centaurs patrol the first ring (sub-circle) of this circle and shoot arrows into sinners that try to emerge from the Phlegethon, a river full of boiling blood. *The final door the player exits from is labeled "Quake door", as the design is nearly identical to a door found in Quake. *The level that 1000-THR appears in is another music reference - this time, to "Lift Yr. Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven!" by Godspeed You! Black Emperor, and specifically the final song on the album. * The self-destruct sequence may be a reference to Metroid, in which, after defeating the "Mother Brain" boss, the main character, Samus Aran, must escape the planet's own self-destruction. **Coincidentally, 1000 in Roman Numerals is "M", making the brain itself the M-THR Brain. *The brain of the Earthmover also contains panels resembling CPUs, reading "GORP" and "D4WG". *The manner in which it throws spears and the way it uses an energy shield it to block attacks from the Earthmover in the distance is reminiscent to the battle against Arael and the Spear of Longinus, both from Neon Genesis Evangelion. ===Lore=== *The Long Night "climate catastrophe" mentioned in the Terminal entry is likely the same event the Streetcleaners were invented to fix. *Based on the terminal data: 200 years after the start of the Final War, Earth had continued to become inhospitable to all life, so the Earthmovers were repurposed to be the last bastions of humanity. **Because of all the ash and soot clouding the skies, the Earthmovers couldn't function without their solar power and began shutting down. This sparked the development of Streetcleaners to help clean the air but were deemed obsolete during the New Peace. *The Earthmover may be sustaining on hell energy, substituting the sunlight which is beyond their reach within Hell. This is supported by the defence system's use of homing projectiles, Hideous Mass mortar projectiles, and Mindflayer lasers as well as the improved Mindflayer laser wall during the 1000-THR brain fight. *Because Earthmovers were the final machines used during the Final War, and because the war ended before V1 could make it to full-scale production, it is implied that V1 was designed to destroy Earthmovers. Deployment methods to get onto them could've been similar to the way Gutterman and Guttertank, via missile cargo. Or alternatively, they would've installed a hellevator onto the Earthmover while it wasn't looking. **The Guttertank's description in the terminal even states that each machine was designed specifically to counter the last, with V1's firmware being last updated around 200 years after World War I started, and the Earthmover's description stating that World War I ended 200 years later. **This is further supported by how, at the start of [ 7-4: ...LIKE ANTENNAS TO HEAVEN ], the Earthmover stops attacking the Earthmover in the distance in an attempt to attack V1 instead. It could have understood, either through communication with other machines or by not recognizing its design, that V1 was made to destroy it. However, it gets interrupted by the other distant Earthmover, giving V1 a time window to start climbing it. *There are signs found across the surface of the Earthmover written in Japanese, implying that it was built by the Japanese during the Final War. ===Easter Eggs and secrets=== *The brain of the Earthmover contains a plush of Victoria Holland, one of the ULTRAKILL developers, sitting at a control panel. White armor parts turn red and wings/halo yellow when enraged.|status=Alive (Currently)|weight=Medium-heavy}}Gabriel is the main antagonist and narrative main protagonist of ULTRAKILL who carries out the will of the Council with a ruthless efficiency that brings him both fear and respect. He is known as the Will of God and is among the most powerful of all the angels. After striking down King Minos and gaining the title Judge of Hell, as well as killing King Sisyphus and ending his insurrection, he sought to drive the Machines out from hell. When he was beaten by V1 the first time in Gluttony, the Council believed him to be squandering his power, and cut him off from the light of The Father. They told him that he would be dead within 24 hours if he did not prove his devotion by finding and killing V1. After he was defeated by the machine a second time in Heresy, he went up to Heaven and killed every member of the Council, realizing the atrocities he had committed on their behalf in the name of an absentee God. ==Appearance== Gabriel's armor is white and gold. His armor includes golden pauldrons, gauntlets that extend to his shoulders, and greaves that reach up to his thighs. His breastplate is gold and white, likewise are his tassets and helmet. The sides of his breastplate have dangling tassels. His helmet visor is primarily white and contains a golden cross and breathing holes on the face of it. A golden ornate band is present on the back and sides of his helmet. Gabriel has black skin with gold designs on his abdomen and lower backside. His grey loin cloth and black skirt are attached to his belt. He has blue translucent wings and a floating halo that has the ability to vanish. ==History== Long before the game takes place, he killed Minos, claiming it was justice, as the king reformed the Lust layer of Hell into a figurative utopia, which stopped sinners' punishments. Minos had refused to fight, believing in civil discussion but was promptly smote by Gabriel. The heavenly Council then rewarded him with the title "Judge of Hell". Also before the events of the game, during the Sisyphean Insurrection, he was able to recognize the powerful charisma of Sisyphus and his army's reliance on his leadership, even though he himself did not realize why at the time, and commanded the armies of heaven to focus their energies at Sisyphus. He was then able to behead Sisyphus himself, breaking the morale of the Sisyphean army completely and making mopping up the insurrection a mere formality. Due to his accomplishments and his charisma, he was revered and treated as an idol by the people of Heaven. Within Act 1, we end up meeting Gabriel and learn his motives for hunting down V1. The machines started invading hell, he sought to drive them out. Just after his defeat to V1, he proclaims that he will return and promptly leaves. In the epilogue of Act 1, we learn that this one loss he faced to a machine was enough to have his loyalty questioned, and he is unable to properly explain himself to the heavenly Council. They declared him a heretic. They give him 24 hours to kill V1 and unmake his mistakes, telling him that, should he fail, the Father's light will be stripped from him, and with it his life will too. The reason for this is because angels find it impossible to think that a creation of god could ever be beaten by a human, much less a thing created by a human. Thus, they believed that Gabriel lost on purpose. Act 2 shows Gabriel's quest to regain the holy light, but as usual is defeated by V1. However, something in Gabriel changed after this loss and he came to the conclusion that the loss was meant to happen and had started to realize the faults in the holy council, and weakly commended V1 for the reality check. In the epilogue of act 2, Gabriel ends up going to the moon, which is presumably the first layer of heaven, in order to think more about his epiphany. He ends up deducing that the slaughtering he'd engaged in was meant to maintain control and was meaningless to god, that God is no longer present, and that the Council is still trying to act in its name. He decides that he couldn't possibly convince the masses of heaven about this with words, and chooses to do something much more attention-grabbing. He goes to Heaven and kills the Council, before showing one of their severed heads off to the angels in heaven, who are, by this point, gathered around the Council's auditorium. He acknowledges that he will also die because the light has been severed from his body, but he ends up deciding to spend his last few hours in Hell. This is where Act 2 ends. ==In-Game== Gabriel can be met in-game on two occasions (so far). Once guarding the entrance to Greed in [ 3-2: IN THE FLESH ] and later again attempting to enact his vengeance on the player in [ 6-2: AESTHETICS OF HATE ]. Outside of that, Gabriel's image can also be spotted all over hell through various paintings and murals, and he was first mentioned in level [ 1-4: CLAIR DE LUNE ] by the resident of the manor, who claimed to be a friend of Gabriel's, awaiting to enter heaven by his penance. In [ 4-3: A SHOT IN THE DARK ], there is a picture of Gabriel with the word "TRAITOR" written in blood aswell as his face crossed out. In the level [ 5-2: WAVES OF THE STARLESS SEA ], you can find a passage written by a Ferryman describing how Gabriel saved him from falling into the River Styx, and the rhetoric he told the Ferryman afterwards to console him. In [ 3-2: IN THE FLESH ], he tells V1 to turn back and not go any deeper into hell, in an attempt to protect the lower layers from the machines. V1, of course, refuses, and so he fights V1 to keep him out instead. He initially speaks very eloquently to V1, although in a holier-than-thou tone that shows he is arrogant and disgusted with the Machine. Once they enter battle, he starts speaking much more angrily to V1, though still in that holier-than-thou tone. This is because as Gabriel is an angel, he is, in fact, holier than thou. In [ 6-2: AESTHETICS OF HATE ], he gives V1 a VERY angry monologue about how machines have completely destroyed the upper layers of hell, and how he is going to kill V1. In this level, he speaks much more unhinged and informally to V1. In the second phase of the battle, however, he starts speaking a lot more about how he is enjoying the fight. This monologue is as follows: "Limbo... Lust... All gone... With Gluttony soon to follow. Your kind know nothing but hunger, purged all life on the upper layers, and yet they remain... unsatiated, as do you... You’ve taken everything from me Machine... and now all that remains… is PERFECT, HATRED. Machine… I will cut you down, break you apart, splay the gore of your profane form across the stars! I will grind you down until the very sparks cry for mercy! My hands will relish ending you here and now!". ==Trivia== *Gabriel is a character from Abrahamic religions, where he is often depicted as an Archangel or the messenger from god to the prophet(s). **Also, Gabriel is sometimes depicted as a warrior of god in Abrahamic religions, making it make sense as to why he would be the one sent down to kill King Minos and King Sisyphus. *Gabriel's red and gold color palette when enraged was originally his main design, but was changed to white and gold because it looked too similar to Iron Man. *Gabriel’s source file is “The weird one with daddy issues idk”. **Despite this, he is, in fact, "Papa's SPECIAL FUCKING BOY". *Many of Gabriel's lines, such as "You make even the DEVIL CRY!", "BEHOLD! The power of an Angel!", "You need more power!", and "Foolishness machine. foolishness..." taunts are clear references to Devil May Cry, a video game series that heavily inspired ULTRAKILL. In addition, his appearance, voice, manner of speaking, and attacks seem reminiscent of Credo from Devil May Cry 4. *There are several unused voice lines in which 3-2 Gabriel taunts the player by saying "Is your software running slow? I may have just the update that will do the trick! Have you tried Jesus?" as well as "Ashes to ashes... Rust to rust...". These voice lines, particularly the software joke, were too long to fit when Gabriel taunts the player. **Gianni has also recorded two joke lines for when the player would follow his word and retreat back down the path they came, but these went unused. *According to Hakita, many of Gabriel's taunts were improvised by Gianni during recording. * Gabriel has many variations of his voice lines in the game files, mostly just the same voice lines in different tones. *Gabriel is one of four characters to say the word "Fuck", the other three being the Owl, Mirage, and the author of the terminal entries found in Prime Sanctums. *The colours of Gabriel's wings and halo appear to reflect his emotional state.Full blue appears to be his default state, occurring during Phase 1 of 3-2, the 3-2 cutscene, and while he plays the organ in 6-2. Full gold coincides with his Rage state in Phase 2 of 3-2 and Phase 1 of 6-2. Blue and gold occur in Phase 2 of 6-2 and the 6-2 cutscene, and their texture in the game files is labeled <code>T_WingsEcstasy.png</code>. *It's possible that Gabriel's weakness to nails is a reference to Christ's death from being nailed to the cross. *In the first scene of Act II's epilogue, the location of Gabriel's pondering is on the Moon, as in Dante's Paradiso (the third and final part of The Divine Comedy) it is the first circle of Heaven, and a ruined, dried up Earth is present in the background. V1's disturbance of the Flesh Panopticon awakens him, breaking free from it himself before V1 can defeat it. When released, Sisyphus speaks of his intention to wreak destruction upon heaven and acknowIedges the machine's actions in the previous Prime Sanctum, admitting curiosity for the one that had slain Minos Prime. He is considered the most complex and difficult boss of Act II and in the game so far. Sisyphus Prime is the Prime Soul of King Sisyphus and the second Prime Soul boss out of presumably three, following Minos Prime. ==Appearance== Sisyphus Prime is a muscular, luminescent humanoid. His golden translucent body gives a clear view of his circulatory system, which seems to be the only organs present, similarly to Minos Prime. His head is a sun-like ball of light, with his face only visible as a red outline in the light. His hands and feet are coated with blood akin to his followers. Upon entering his second phase, he gains a fiery red aura, limbs covered in more blood, as well as long hair and a full beard, suggesting his Prime form has further developed under the stress of combat. ==Combat== Sisyphus Prime is an incredibly powerful enemy, capable of chaining attacks to kill V1 in seconds. It only takes a moment of inattention to Die. *"You can't escape!": Sisyphus performs a Sumo Combo. He strikes a pose, then teleports three times to V1, performing in turn a punch and knee strike, a flying kick, and a stomp, which spawns a grounded shockwave at his feet. The first attack predicts V1's movement, while the rest go for its current position. The final stomp attack can be parried with a well-timed punch, interrupting the shockwave but not the stomp itself. This attack is only used when V1 is grounded, but the third attack in the chain follows V1 upwards if airborne, spiking it into the ground if the attack connects. In phase 2, the final stomp of this attack has its endlag removed. This attack requires 3 Stamina. *"Destroy!": Sisyphus teleports to V1 and performs an uppercut, then stands still and summons a glint near or on V1, which will explode briefly after being created. The glint tracks ahead of V1's movement to catch it in the detonation, similarly to an enraged Virtue's beam. This attack can be parried in the brief window between the uppercut and the appearance of the glint, but the explosion cannot be interrupted regardless of whether the attack is parried. This attack is only used when V1 is grounded, though the glint can follow V1 into the air. This attack requires 3 Stamina. *"This will hurt.": Sisyphus teleports to V1 and charges up for a moment before releasing a large explosion. This explosion has a very large radius and deals the most damage of all of Sisyphus' attacks, but the charge-up can be parried with relatively lenient timing if the player is close enough. Parrying the attack cancels the explosion and briefly stuns Sisyphus regardless of phase or difficulty. This attack is only used when V1 is grounded, though the explosion can obviously still hit it in the air. This attack requires 1 Stamina. *"BE GONE!": Sisyphus teleports to V1 before slamming his palms together, creating a vertical shockwave on impact. Sisyphus briefly stops tracking V1 before the slam comes out, allowing the slam to be avoided. The slam can also be parried, interrupting the shockwave but not the slam itself. This attack can be used whether V1 is grounded or airborne. This attack requires 1 Stamina. *Roundhouse Kick: Sisyphus Prime teleports to V1 and performs a spinning kick; if it connects, V1 gets sent flying far away from Sisyphus. This attack can be used whether V1 is grounded or airborne. This attack can be parried. This attack requires 1 Stamina. *Overhead Chop: Sisyphus teleports to V1 and throws a knife-hand strike. This attack tracks the player's movement perfectly, and thus can only be avoided with dash I-frames or by moving out of range. If it connects in the air, V1 gets spiked downwards. This attack can be performed while V1 is grounded or airborne. This attack cannot be parried. This attack requires 1 Stamina. *Ground Slam: Sisyphus teleports above V1 and slams directly downwards, creating a grounded shockwave on impact. This attack can be performed regardless if V1 is grounded or airborne. This attack is similar to Minos Prime's "Crush!". This attack requires 1 Stamina. *"Nice try!": When Sisyphus has used over 10 attacks in Phase 1 and over 15 attacks in Phase 2, and has currently used Stamina in this cycle and has over 20 health, he will occasionally taunt, saying "Nice try!", similarly to Gabriel's taunts. He will stop in place to perform this taunt, making it an opportunity to heal or damage him. This form of direct mockery towards V1 requires 2 Stamina. The attacks "You can't escape!", "This will hurt." and "DESTROY!" will be followed up by a number of the following 'combo' specials - "BE GONE!", Roundhouse Kick, Overhead Chop and Ground slam. Stamina Similarly to Minos Prime, all of Sisyphus' attacks are controlled by an invisible stamina meter that dictates what moves can be performed at what time. If he runs out of stamina, he will have to wait for it to recharge. During this time he will run towards V1, with a small chance to taunt before attacking again (the taunt will consume Stamina). The recovery time is 4 seconds on Harmless, 3 on Lenient and 2 on Standard and Violent. Sisyphus has the following stamina values in different difficulties: *<span style="color: rgb(0,255,0)">HARMLESS</span> / <span style="color: rgb(255,255,0)">LENIENT</span> - 6 Stamina on both Phase 1 and Phase 2 *<span style="color: rgb(255,100,0)">STANDARD</span> - 6 Stamina in Phase 1, 10 Stamina in Phase 2 *<span style="color: rgb(255,0,0)">VIOLENT</span> - 8 Stamina in Phase 1, 16 Stamina in Phase 2 *<span style="color: rgb(155,0,0)">BRUTAL</span> - 10 Stamina in Phase 1, Infinite Stamina in Phase 2 Sisyphus Prime will restore 5 Stamina whenever any of his attacks is parried. This stamina refill has no limit, which means the more he is parried, the longer he attacks for. Phase 2 When his first health bar is depleted, Sisyphus Prime shouts "YES! That's it!", overriding all of his other voice lines. During Phase 2, Sisyphus Prime's attacks are cast much quicker, and with less recovery time in between attacks. On Standard, parrying "BE GONE!" and the final stomp of "You can't escape!" will no longer interrupt their shockwaves. He will also gain stamina in this phase depending on difficulty. ===Difficulty Changes=== *<span style="color: rgb(0,255,0)">HARMLESS</span> **"This... will hurt." has a longer wind-up time and a smaller explosion. **The Ground Slam, "BE GONE!", and the final stomp of "You can't escape!" will not produce shockwaves. **Sisyphus Prime's attacks are significantly slower. *<span style="color: rgb(255,255,0)">LENIENT</span> **The Ground Slam, "BE GONE!", and the final stomp of "You can't escape!" will not produce shockwaves. ** Sisyphus Prime's attacks are considerably slower. *<span style="color: rgb(255,0,0)">VIOLENT</span> **"BE GONE!" and the final stomp of "You can't escape!" will produce shockwaves even when parried. *<span style="color: rgb(155,0,0)">BRUTAL</span> **"BE GONE!" and the final stomp of "You can't escape" create delayed explosions during phase 2. **Sisyphus Prime no longer taunts his target. **Sisyphus Prime's attacks are slightly faster. ==Rending Apart == Trying to beat this boss fight for the first time is, for lack of a better term, a Sisyphean task. You'll likely need a substantial amount of attempts to build up solid muscle memory and reaction speed. When contrasted with Minos Prime, Sisyphus Prime's sequences of attacks are much more randomised, with the only exceptions being that certain more powerful ones ("You can't escape!", "DESTROY!" and "This will hurt." won't be performed while V1 is in the air, and these same moves cannot be done one after the other. Additionally, Sisyphus Prime generally gives far shorter telegraphs. Because of this, a big part of the learning curve here is to be able to distinguish each of his attacks quickly. Pay attention to- and know the difference between- the yellow flash "parryable" and blue flash "unparryable" sound cues. Sisyphus' windup animations are also very exaggerated (see Gallery), so it's possible to quickly recognize each of his moves- even the ones without a corresponding voice line- with enough practice. One should take Sisyphus' words of "You can't escape" literally- Trying to make distance is ultimately pointless, he will catch up, often instantly. Not only that, but he tends to track your movement and "lead" his attacks with great accuracy. Suffice to say, he will have no trouble hitting you with his big, meaty hands if you're not careful. You must pay close attention to where he is and what he's doing at all times, and especially look out for the subtle trail he leaves when teleporting so you don't lose track. Anticipate his attacks, react to them, and follow his rhythm. This fight is a dance, and it's lead by him. A well-timed dash, slide, ground slam, or just an adjustment in your trajectory (otherwise known as "juking") can make a world of difference. Try to save your stamina for when you absolutely need it, such as when you're forced into the air and have limited movement control, or if he performs one of his moves which are significantly more difficult to avoid without I-frames, such as "Destroy!" and the Overhead Chop. The Sawblade Launcher can find great use here due to his large size. As always, Railcoining can deal great damage and, combined with a sawblade trap setup during his monologue, could take away a significant chunk of his health right off the bat. Parrying Sisyphus' attacks is an integral part of the fight. It restores health and stamina, allowing you to play riskier and use dashes more liberally. Learn to parry all his attacks and you can turn Sisyphus' relentless aggression on himself. However, parrying also restores Stamina to him, so one may instead choose to parry as little as possible such that he fights at a more forgiving pace. Unlike Minos Prime, who would often send out snake projectiles which you could parry to get a full heal from a distance, all of Sisyphus' parryable attacks require that you physically punch him during their "yellow glint" windows. Because of this, an aggressive playstyle is highly recommended. Simply making a habit of moving towards Sisyphus can make "BE GONE!" and the Roundhouse Kick much easier to parry and take less reaction time, since your melee range is short and Sisyphus can often begin these attacks just outside of it, especially if you're retreating or strafing around him. It's also worth mentioning how the fight can become somewhat trivial if you simply stand completely still on the ground without shooting any of your weapons so you can focus on parrying his attacks and just feedbacker him to death. This can be good for when you're learning how to quickly distinguish his attacks and not die, but makes the fight somewhat tedious and, frankly, boring. Don't expect to get a P-rank if you're playing like this. The Whiplash is a crucial aggression tool in this fight, great for quickly getting in close-range to parry Sisyphus' more predictable attacks, namely "This will hurt." and the later part of "Destroy!" where he casts the explosive glint. It also doubles as a way to avoid the horizontal shockwaves caused by the final stomp of "You can't escape!" and the Ground Slam, if you were already in the air and thus can't jump to avoid them. You can also get some juicy blood while you're at it, win-win. Sisyphus is generally much easier and less punishing to use the whiplash on than most enemies, due to his bigger hitbox and close-ranged fighting style. The frantic nature of his fight, therefore, shouldn't discourage you from using it. After many of his attacks there is a considerable moment of pause [usually during his "Nice try!" taunt or when he's out of stamina], during which you can get off a cheeky amount of damage and/or healing. There are also short "end-lag" recovery periods after his "You can't escape!" and Ground Slam attacks, which are good opportunities to execute high-damage attacks of your own. Be careful, however, as the pause after "You can't escape!" is skipped during phase 2. Sisyphus Prime's extensive repertoire of attacks that place him close to V1 allows for certain weapons to shine against him. The Screwdriver is extremely helpful in staying alive as Sisyphus is difficult to heal from normally, which the extended healing range helps with. While it's tempting to go for Railcoins, Sisyphus doesn't give you much time to breathe so using the Screwdriver may be more practical if you haven't practiced the fight yet. The Jumpstart Nailgun variant is surprisingly useful too, as Sisyphus doesn't tend to move out of range long enough for the tether to snap, allowing for some gnarly conduction damage. Combine these with shotgun swapping and the Knuckleblaster, and his health bar will evaporate. Similarly to Minos Prime, being airborne for too long is very risky, as many of his attacks can and will send you involuntarily flying around the arena and potentially force you into a combo. If you're still learning the fight and survival is your priority, it is recommended to only be airborne when you need to dodge grounded shockwaves. For those more experienced with this fight and ULTRAKILL's movement, however, it's actually possible to dodge and counter Sisyphus in mid-air and even use his explosive launches against him. If you can "ride" and maintain the momentum from them, or simply move very fast by other means (dash-jumping, ground slam into slide-jump, whiplash cancelling etc.), Sisyphus will start to miss some (not all) of his attacks without much input. Approaching the fight in a more active way like this can greatly assist you during phase 2 on <span style="color: rgb(155,0,0)">BRUTAL</span> difficulty; The increased amount of aftershock explosions will punish you for staying in one general area. The aforementioned high-speed movement techniques also allow for some serious damage with the Jackhammer variant of the shotgun, which pairs especially well with Sisyphus given how it automatically parries melee attacks (in this case, often unintentionally). The Rocket Launcher can reliably deal double damage with air-shots due to Sisyphus' large size and tendency to chase the player into the air for his combos, making it a great option to punish these mid-air moves if you're moving away from him and aren't in-range to attempt a parry or get hit by the resulting red explosion. Even though these air-shots are pretty easy to hit given Sisyphus remains briefly still for each attack, magnets can make it even easier. Rocket Surfing can be quite thrilling in this fight, especially with the arena's increased ceiling height compared to it's P-1 counterpart- which, mind you, also makes setting up railcoin/slabcoin chains slightly easier. Generic formulas and tips for avoiding each attack: *"You can't escape!" - Dash through the first move, slide around the following two, parry his leg then immediately dash/slide away and jump. If you're in the air, count his moves within the combo and dash through the third one. *"Destroy!" - Dash through the uppercut, and try to parry the explosive casting animation (you might need to walk towards him or use another dash to get in-range). You can tell when the explosion is about to go off by the glint's shrinking glow animation. In the heat of combat, however, it might be better to simply dash-jump or dash + slide out of range after the glint has been summoned if you have the stamina to spare. If the uppercut knocked you into the air, wait for the glint to be summoned ahead of your trajectory, then ground slam and slide in the opposite direction. *"This will hurt." - This attack can easily be parried if Sisyphus begins it right on top of you, simply jump up and parry him after the yellow flash. When you're further away, things get more difficult. Sisyphus has no player collision during the wind-up, so the parry can be tough to land at high speeds. Using the whiplash can be great as long as you cancel it with the feedbacker as soon as you're in-range and don't let the pulling animation continue, otherwise V1 will freak out and jitter all over the place. If you're not confident you'll be able to hit the parry in-time, it's better to try and move as far away as possible, as quickly as possible. Don't try to dash through the explosion, especially if you're close to the point of origin. It has two individual "layers" and the innermost delayed one will, in fact, hurt. *"BE-GONE!" - This attack will begin at V1's immediate location. The best way to counter it is to parry it (or at least attempt to) and immediately dash or slide to the side. *Roundhouse Kick- If V1 is moving, this attack will begin ahead of its current trajectory (for example, he will teleport below you while you're falling as a means to catch you when you come down), and in this situation there is a small window of time in which you will be in-range to parry this attack before the kick actually comes out. Otherwise, a ground slam or a dash will allow you to avoid it. This attack is far less oppressive on the ground, as you can simply parry it and slide underneath. *Overhead Chop - This attack, like "BE-GONE!", begins right at V1's immediate location (albeit slightly above), and can only be avoided by either somehow quickly moving out of range or with a well-timed dash. Ground slams often don't work. *Ground slam - This attack, much like Minos Prime's "Die!", is best avoided by dashing to the side and jumping. It's also possible to slide and jump, albeit with tighter timing. If you're in the air, it's best to just try and dash through it. Again, these combo attacks aren't that difficult to avoid in of themselves, it's mostly their unpredictable and frequent nature which demands vigilance. A paint-by-numbers guide on each attack like this can only do so much. Most of all, perseverance, as well as patience, is key. Sisyphus is the second prime soul, and by far the toughest foe ULTRAKILL™ has thrown at you yet. Remember to take breaks when you need them; he'll be waiting if and when you are ready to face him again.<!-- To do: Maybe divide this section into sub-categories? General strategy, avoiding attacks, weapon strategies, advanced strategies etc. --> ==Terminal Data == For more information, see Terminal.<blockquote>TYPE: PRIME SOUL DATA: Though Minos was intelligent and persuasive, he was also a gentle and noble man. Such values mattered little to Sisyphus, who would gladly lie, cheat or kill if that's what is needed to protect his comrades. In a hubristic show of power, Heaven decided that the only correct punishment for his sins would be breaking his will by subjecting him to an unending and impossible task, unaware of just how tenacious the spite of man can be. For thousands of years, Sisyphus bided his time, suffering his punishment day after day without any sign of regret or remorse, waiting for the perfect chance to strike and subvert Heaven's tyrannical rule. With the Disappearance of God and chaos in Heaven, Sisyphus' time had finally come, and once the angels returned, they were met with a force and fury that had boiled in the hearts of men for millennia, a war-cry so fierce it shook the very foundations of Hell. It was all for naught, however, as Sisyphus' charisma and drive had made his warriors dependent on his radiance and guidance. Although he did not know why yet, Gabriel recognized[sic] this flaw, having experienced it first hand, and ordered a focused assault to take down the king. He unsheathed his swords for the first time since time immemorial and beheaded Sisyphus, displaying his head for all to see. The morale of Sisyphus' army was broken and the rest of the war was little more than a formality without their shining beacon. The failure of the insurrection was no surprise however, and few knew that better than Sisyphus himself. He knew he was fighting a losing battle, that even if they miraculously survived this encounter, they had no chance of winning a full scale war against all of Heaven. Yet he thrust his full heart and soul into battle with a wide smile on his face. To him, fighting an impossible battle with full knowledge of its futility and taking joy in just the act of resistance itself is the ultimate rebellion against the oppressor. One must imagine Sisyphus happy. STRATEGY: - Sisyphus' relentless attacks leave little room to recover stamina, but many of them are parryable, allowing for an instant refill. - The radiant power of the sun makes Sisyphus' explosive attacks very difficult to avoid, but since a dash gives temporary invincibility, good timing allows one to avoid the damage of an explosion without actually needing to escape its radius.</blockquote> ==Voice Lines== * "This prison… To hold... The only other characters that imply knowledge of restarts are the Mysterious Druid Knight (& Owl) and Sisyphus' ACT I counterpart, Minos Prime. *It appears that Sisyphus, like Minos, was somehow able to perceive the events that were occurring within ULTRAKILL's world, despite being trapped in a prison for innumerable years. *Sisyphus Prime's head is an opaque, radiant, glowing ball as opposed to his translucent body. This is likely due to his beheading at the hands of Gabriel during the war in Greed, and his soul mimicking his husk's appearance as it can be seen in the Chamber of the Feline and the Rodent in [ 4-4: CLAIR DE SOLEIL ]. *Sisyphus Prime's boxer stance may suggest that along with having the incredible physical strength and speed of a Prime Soul, he is also a trained fighter. *Sisyphus Prime is based primarily on Albert Camus' "The Myth of Sisyphus" as opposed to the Greek Mythology interpretation. * Sisyphus' blood-soaked legs and hands may reference the practice of his Insurrectionists to protect their limbs from the heat of Greed's dunes by soaking them in the blood of their enemies. ===Development=== *The original concept art for Sisyphus Prime was made by BigRockBMP, and his model was made by ActionDawg. *Sisyphus Prime is voiced by Lenval Brown, known for being the voice of the narrator in Disco Elysium: The Final Cut. **His plushie within the Developer Museum plays a joke Sisyphus voiceline; with him saying "A Plushie? To hold ME?" followed by his maniacal laughter (albeit sped-up and at a higher pitch in-game). These voicelines can be listened to here. **Sisyphus' "Mmmm..." voiceline when being parried was actually a recording of Lenval Brown clearing his throat. **Given Brown mostly had experience in narration- not voice acting- many of his first-pass line deliveries were described as being "too polite and calm" and were subsequently rerecorded. Although, this sense of calmness was partly intentional; Sisyphus' character was meant to subvert the typical "loud, dumb warmonger" trope and instead come across as more patient and tenacious. * Sisyphus Prime's moveset seems to draw inspiration from multiple martial arts. * His pose when he performs "YOU CAN'T ESCAPE!" is a popular sumo stance, supporting the above bullet point thing. *Before version 12b, Sisyphus Prime's attacks couldn't be parried upon reaching phase 2 on Violent, making the fight unreasonably difficult. This was an oversight on Hakita's part, since he and the playtesters tested this level on Standard difficulty. ===Misc=== *Sisyphus Prime's boss theme is named "WAR" and can be found here. **Sisyphus Prime's boss theme, in a similar manner to Minos Prime's boss theme using the Requiem motif from 2-2, uses the Sands of Tide motif from 4-2. **His theme also uses the Unstoppable Force motif from 0-2/0-4 as well. *In terms of character model size, Sisyphus Prime towers over Minos Prime, who, when not counting his crown, barely stands up past his thighs. * There has been some misconception regarding Sisyphus Prime's physique among the community as to say that it doesn't properly reflect how powerful he is. When in-fact, the bulky appearance of his body is very common for the physically strongest people in the world to have. ** Defined abdominal muscles are almost always a result of dehydration and are generally developed for looks. Sisyphus has a "power-lifter" body type, meaning that it is cultivated entirely for physical strength, with little attention being given to aesthetics. *Sisyphus Prime's orange glowing motif most likely stems from him being exposed to GREED's harsh sun for millennia. **It is also stated within his terminal entry that his attacks are explosive due to the "radiant power of the sun". *Several of Sisyphus Prime's attacks can clip V1 through walls if next to one at a very specific position. If this happens and both V1 and Sisyphus fall into the void, both will respawn at the center of the arena. **Before version 12b, Sisyphus would still give chase, even when out of bounds until his stamina depleted, resulting in him falling to a clumsy, painful death. *Many of Sisyphus' attacks cause him to leave a trail of disturbed rubble behind him, implying he moves faster than you can see instead of teleporting, similar to Minos. * If sanded and then unsanded (using the Alter arm) his head glow will bug out and become a large square. * The above glitch has been patched sadly. *Much like the other Prime Soul, Sisyphus' translucent body becomes invisible whilst underwater, aside from his circulatory system and face outline. *The glow on Sisyphus Prime's head actually follows the player, not the camera. This can easily be observed by jumping around in Clash Mode. *A puppeted version of Sisyphus that enters his second phase will have Sisyphus' main body appear over the puppet's body. *Sisyphus Prime is the only Prime Soul not to have a bacteriophage named after him, as Minos Phrime is a direct reference to Minos Prime. This is real. *Upon enabling the force bossbars cheat, his longer death animation will play as opposed to his shorter one. This property is shared with Minos Prime. **Strangely, his monologue does not play when doing this. ==Gallery== <gallery> File:SisyphusPrime concept1.jpg|Original concept art for Sisyphus Prime, by BigRockBMP File:SisyphusPrime concept2.jpg|Ditto, but for second phase File:Sisydawgrender.jpg|In-game render of Sisyphus Prime (Phase 2), by Action Dawg File:Sisyphus punch.jpg|"DESTROY!"
