"RECONSTRUCT WHAT?! THERE'S NOTHING LEFT." - Hakita, in answer to claims that V2 could possibly be reconstructed after 4-4.
V2 was a Supreme Machine, making its debut in [ 1-4: CLAIR DE LUNE ] and appearing again for a rematch in [ 4-4: CLAIR DE SOLEIL ]. It is the game's first unique boss enemy, with parallels to V1 in both appearance and abilities.
V2 is teased shortly before its first fight, briefly glimpsed sliding through the manor after V1 places the first blue skull on one of the pedestals. When confronting V1, it bows before the fight begins, as if to signal honor and respect. In its second fight, V2 is seen sitting on a throne, as if to assert dominance over its rival. When V1 enters the room, V2 stands up and cracks its knuckles before the fight begins, as if to state that this fight is personal.
Appearance[]
V2 is the second prototype of the V model line, sharing an almost identical appearance to V1 but with a bold red color scheme, being a vaguely humanoid form with toe-less feet, a five-fingered right hand, and a geometric head resembling a security camera. "V2" is displayed on the chest portion of its chassis. Both models share wing-like adornments from their back glowing with yellow light, making the unit vaguely resemble an angel. In [ 1-4: CLAIR DE LUNE ], V2 will have the Knuckleblaster equipped as its left arm, while in [ 4-4: CLAIR DE SOLEIL ], it has the Whiplash.
The Knuckleblaster has exaggerated exhaust pipes along the forearm close to the elbow and three thick grey claw-like fingers at its end. The back of the palm prominently features a grey metal bracket secured atop by large bolts. It has a mechanism in the forearm to load and fire shotgun shells out of two barrels where the knuckles would be in a regular hand. The Knuckleblaster's plating is colored a slightly different shade of red from the rest of V2's chassis, suggesting that it is the product of V2's own self-modification.
The Whiplash, on the other hand, is much more sleek and humanoid in its shape, with green paint and an internal mechanism to fire a grappling hook out of the palm. Its plating appears to have been salvaged from a Sentry, while the cable appears to have been derived from a Hideous Mass's tail harpoon.
History[]
V2 was designed to attempt to recuperate the costs of V1's development when the establishment of the New Peace drained all demand for weapons of war. As such, V2 was marketed and designed for peacetime applications such as security, eschewing the V1's blood-absorptive plating for durable standardized plating. However, its complexity and cost made bulk purchases of simpler, specialized machines such as Drones preferable to purchasing a single V2. As a result, the revised model failed to gain traction and only one prototype was produced, being the one we see in game.[1]
After humanity's demise, many machines ventured into Hell in search of life-giving blood, made possible due to the mining facility humans established at the gates of hell before their disappearance. Machines started to kill the residents of Hell to harvest blood, leading to complete depopulation and eventually prompting the machines to begin slaughtering each other. V2 stood among the aptly-named Supreme Machines who had risen to the top, were able to destroy entire segments of Hell on their own.
Somewhere around an exit out of the Limbo layer, V2 hoped to ambush V1 and get rid of competition. However, V2 could not keep up with V1 and lost the fight, but escaped, losing its left arm, the Knuckleblaster in the process. Now fueled by disdain, V2 labored to meet with V1 once more, which it planned to be its last encounter with its predecessor. On its way, V2 scavenged parts of other machines and created the mobility tool Whiplash. The Whiplash allowed it to catch up to its adversary and eventually meet it in a pyramid in the Greed layer, where the robots fought once more. After being defeated, V2 attempted to escape once more, but V1 gave chase. The two machines fought while sliding down the side of the pyramid, and V1 eventually emerged victorious, sending its red antagonist plummeting off the side of the giant structure. The resulting stain of blood on the ground, erstwhile known as V2, left only the Whiplash for its predecessor.
In-Game[]
V2 is encountered twice by V1 during the events of ULTRAKILL, once in [ 1-4: CLAIR DE LUNE ] and then again in [ 4-4: CLAIR DE SOLEIL ].
Trivia[]
- The dynamic V1 and V2 share is similar to that of Dante and Vergil from the Devil May Cry series, being rivals with comparable power levels and contrasting color schemes.
- V2's battle theme is Versus in the first fight and Duel in the second fight. Both of these songs use the same leitmotif.
- Distinctly, Duel is named Duel (Versus Reprise) in most official releases of the song.
- V2 never stops moving during both of its battles, only standing still during its beginning animations.
- Despite dropping the Knuckleblaster and Whiplash arms, V2 does not use either of them in combat due to the fight's already high mechanical complexity.[2]
- V2 is currently the only boss that does not give the [+DISRESPECT] style bonus when punched.
- V2 is one of four bosses to escape their first fight alive, the other three being Gabriel, Swordsmachine, and the
Minotaur. It is one of the three bosses to be killed in their second fight (along with Swordsmachine and theMinotaur).- It is also one of the two bosses in game that have encounters between levels, the other being Gabriel, as said before.
- V2 is one of two bosses to have multiple Terminal data entries, the other being Gabriel.
- V2 is the only major boss so far that is of medium weight, allowing it to be launched into the air by an indirect Rocket Launcher explosion. This also allows it to be juggled with consecutive Launcher shots.
- As of ACT II, V2 has a bug where when freshly-spawned from the Spawner Arm, it wields all of its guns at once. This bug is entirely visual and corrects itself upon V1s' first attack.
- Due to the constant rumors that V2 actually survived the second fight in [ 4-4: CLAIR DE SOLEIL ], Hakita has confirmed -quite emphatically - that "It's fucking dead."[3]. Hakita has also expressed disdain at the prospect of V2 returning alive.
- If V2 is summoned with the spawner arm and at any point is turned blind by the Blind Enemies cheat, it will slide forever, unable to move, but still being able to attack.
- V2 is the only major boss (besides Cerberus) to be affected by the enemy silhouettes minor assist (unless outline only is on), with a unique custom color.
- V2 can escape being grappled by the Whiplash by dashing.
- V2's Spawner Arm placement preview will still have its movement trail.
- V2 has a slight error in both of its iterations with it's 2nd left wing on top, rather than the first wing.
- For reasons unknown, the mods of r/ULTRAKILL pretend that V2 is a fan character.[4][5]
- V2's remains are the substance in Hakita's wine glass in 7-S.

- ↑ @HakitaDev Tweeted: There seems to be a lot of confusion about why V2 was made during a time of peace, and since it's never gonna be specified in the game, I'll just explain it here:
Money, of course.
@HakitaDev Tweeted: V1's design and development took a lot of time, money and resources, so V2 was an attempt at getting at least some return on that investment after the war ended (such as for security), but it evidently failed to gain any traction since only the prototype was ever made.
@HakitaDev Tweeted: Since they are very advanced and versatile, they're also extremely expensive to produce, especially compared to simpler specialized machines, so there's no sense in a security firm using all that money on 1 V-model instead of 50 Drones.
It's really that simple. - ↑ Asked: Thanks boss. One more question since I was gonna get into it in Act 2: Why doesn't V2 use the arm powers in its fights? No buster knuckle punches in Limbo or whiplash pulls in Greed. Is it just unaware of its potential?
@HakitaDev Answered: No, it's just because the V2 fights are already the most mechanically complex fights in the game with too much to keep track of as is, so adding even more to that would just make it a nonsense mess. - ↑ ULTRAKILL Developer Commentary Stream with Hakita and PITR (7:04:10)
